Stegophilic Walk
This short animated piece was my response to the following brief:
In the absence of sophisticated visual texturing you must rely on sounds to communicate the material qualities of your container. Plot a 60 second path by drawing a coloured line (or piece of thread) that traverses some of the surfaces and edges of your open container from ground level to the highest point and back to the start. Collaborate with a sound designer, who will develop the sounds that texture the journey. Imagine you are controlling a new kind of miniature robot that glides, scrapes and abseils across surfaces and edges to sense their textures[…] Clearly the movement and sounds will be influenced by the speed of the journey, the charactersitics of the robot and its sensors, as well as thresholds, transitions and glitches. Expect the world to look and sound strange when you are just a few millimeters above a surface.
